We are really excited to announce that we have 5 university students volunteering with us as part of their pro bono module at Reading University. One of our student volunteers, Jessica, had this to say about working with us:
“I always knew I wanted to volunteer at Citizens Advice because of the great support they provide to people across the UK so when I encountered them at my University’s pro bono fair I applied. I had witnessed their services first hand when my family needed help, they provided great support and advice which vastly improved our situation. I absolutely love the time I spend at Citizens Advice. The staff are lovely — so supportive and caring that you can’t help but enjoy your time you give. The work is really rewarding and makes you feel good because you know you’ve helped someone who might have been stressed and struggling with a problem that they couldn’t solve without your advice or information.
I would say to other University students out there seek out your local Citizens Advice and get stuck in it! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and the work you do is so rewarding and fulfilling. Everyone is so supportive and they all rally behind you because they want to help you help others. So please don’t miss out — it’s an amazing opportunity!”
Jessica, Student Volunteer
Many students find volunteering at Citizens Advice compliments their course work and provides valuable skills for the future. Last year Citizens Advice Bracknell supported 2,929 clients on over 18,000 different issues. We increased client income by an estimated £906,837 and reduced debts by £495,546 which helps the individual and the local economy. Access to our service is the biggest barrier to local people getting our help, our services are in high demand and very oversubscribed. Behind these numbers are real people with remarkable stories, as one client said ‘to be absolutely honest, I would not still be here if it was not for Citizens Advice help.’
We are a volunteer led, local charity. Funding is always a challenge and we need your help so we can continue to offer our life-changing services to local people in need.
Thank you to all of our student volunteers (and non-student volunteers) for all your hard work, time and dedication you give. You are unpaid, not because you are worthless but because you are PRICELESS!
